Independent kitesurfing course - IKO Level 3 PDF

Pre-requisites: Certified to IKO level 2 I. If you do not have an IKO kiteboarder card we can arrange an assessment and certify you to your level.

IKO Level 3 covers edging, staying upwind, turning and jumping.  It is best covered in short sections once students have had practise following the completion of IKO Level 2.

Synergy Kitesports offer individual coaching sessions (minimum 2 hours a day, maximum 6 hours).  These are ideal for people who have completed IKO Level 1 and 2 either with us or elsewhere, and have reached a plateau in their progression or have a particular area they would like to cover.

NOTE: Group Sizes are a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4 people per instructor

Level 3 J

  • Know the right of way rules
  • Ride away from the shore and come back to the shoreFirst Rides

Level 3 K

  • Edge on the heel and toe to change course
  • Accelerate by edging down and moving the kite
  • Stop by edging
  • Be able to keep an edge

Level 3 L

  • Ride away from the shore and come back to the starting point
  • Constantly ride upwind

Level 3 M

  • Recover the board without a leash, by body dragging upwind
  • Ride a twin tip
  • Change direction

Level 3 N

  • Know the theoretical approach to jumps
  • Perform a small jump and land it

For all kitesurfing courses please bring along: Warm clothes for wearing on the beach; Wetsuit - these can be bought or hired at Granite Reef in Aberdeen; Wetsuit boots and wetsuit gloves are advised which can also be bought at Granite Reef in Aberdeen. Lunch and drinks. Hot drinks are advised.
